Social Security and the Constitution of India
Authors

Abstract
The Indian Constitution is the bedrock of the country's social and
legal structure, providing a strong basis for social security. More than just a
legal text, it serves as a roadmap for creating a welfare state focused on
improving citizens' lives. This study investigates how core constitutional
provisions, especially, guide the government in developing and applying social
security programs. It analyzes specific articles that require the state to
ensure a living wage, offer public aid during hardship, and maintain humane
work conditions. The paper also highlights the judiciary's crucial role in
interpreting these principles and upholding them through legal rulings. It
contends that while the Constitution provides a clear directive, the practical
application of these programs faces obstacles like a massive population,
financial limitations, and administrative challenges. Despite these
difficulties, the constitutional commitment continues to motivate India's
efforts to establish an inclusive society.
