Abstract
This study examines the significant regional disparities in the
representation and roles of women within police forces worldwide. Despite a global
push for gender equality, the integration of women into law enforcement remains
uneven, with some regions making notable progress while others lag behind. This
comparative analysis explores the socio-cultural, political, and institutional
factors that contribute to these disparities. We investigate how varying
recruitment policies, promotion pathways, and on-the-ground roles for female
officers differ across diverse geographical contexts, including North America,
Europe, Asia, and Africa. The research highlights the positive impact of
increased female representation, such as improved community relations and a
reduction in violence against women, and identifies the challenges hindering
progress, including discriminatory practices, lack of support systems, and
stereotypical biases. By synthesizing existing data and case studies, this
paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current landscape,
underscore the importance of targeted interventions, and offer policy
recommendations to foster a more equitable and effective global police force.
The findings are critical for policymakers and law enforcement agencies seeking
to enhance gender diversity and operational effectiveness.
